Bittersweet
by Jerry Rectenwald (copyrighted)
He was born into the world a helpless little babe
Just like you and me, in human need
And though He was a King, He lay upon the straw
For all to see, the Lord in humility
He cried in hunger, the cold night it chilled Him
Behold the Savior, O come let us adore Him
And do you see the bittersweet in the night that God became a child?
And do you see the victory in the Christ Who was born to die?
He grew into a Man to fulfill the eternal plan
Of grace and peace, man’s bondage to release
And many did believe, still more His words would grieve
Whose hearts of stone turned black with hate for God’s only Son
The self-righteous feared Him, while the blind and lame did leap for joy
Words of life for one man, another man seeks to destroy
And do you see the bittersweet in the world that Jesus came to save?
Oh, it is He that they will seek for the life that He freely gave
Darkness seemed to have its way when He gave His life away
So willingly, that we might be free
He bled and died that day to take our sins away
That His light might shine thru the hearts of all mankind
He rose in glory, death could not hold Him
Nor can death hold us, we are God’s children
And do you see the victory that was won for you by precious blood?
He turned the bitter into sweet by the power of His Holy Word
God turned the bitter into sweet by the power of His Holy Word
