One Day

by Jerry Rectenwald (copyrighted)

One day while I was at work

I was thinking about my life

And all of the problems that I had

Haunted by my past, taunted by thoughts of what’s to come

And restless about where I was at

Then a friend came up to me

And he said he needed my help

He said his life was coming apart at the seams

He came to me

He said he heard that I was a Christian

And that he needed the help of the Lord

And he asked if we could sit and talk for a while

Tears rolled down his cheeks as he told me of his sorrow

And then he asked about Jesus, and how he could be saved

So I prayed with him right there

And he took his burden of care

And he laid it upon the One Who could set him free

He came to Jesus

(intro)

As I drove home that day

My heart was filled with joy

And I pondered as to why I felt so good

Then the notion came to me

That there were two men who were set free

He from his sorrow and all his sin, and me from me

I had stepped outside myself

And gave my time to someone else

And in doing that I realized true peace

I forgot about me

I forgot about me
