To the Cross

by Jerry Rectenwald (copyrighted)

I’m looking behind to find what I lost

As I search my mind I’m counting the cost

Of a life, seeking only to survive from day to day

In a world that revolves around my want and my fear

But there was a time when my life was new

No selfish designs, when my heart was true

To the word; and the Shepard’s gentle staff was guiding me

Lovingly, on a journey that began when I came

(chorus)       To the cross, the sacrifice

To the cross, the sinners price

To the cross, where Mary cried when Jesus died

                   And life begins again

Lord, take me by the hand

And lead me once again to Your promised land

The desert’s burning sand

Is causing me to yearn for the Jordan

I don’t want anything

But trusting in Your love, Thy true peace will bring

And living waters spring

From deep within my soul as my spirit sings

(chorus)

Can I find a way to start over again?

To trust and obey and call Jesus my friend?

As I pray, there’s a stone that’s rolled away

And a new day dawns in me

And I’m free as long as I can see

(chorus)

Life begins again

Life begins at the cross
