I wrote “We Are Remembered” in 1986. It was copyrighted and originally recorded in 1987. I was asked to write a song for a very special organization called We Are Remembered (WARM), a ministry of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, PA, co-founded by my sister, Janet Ennis. WARM was established to minister to those affected by sudden and tragic death of loved ones: such as accident, murder and suicide. My own personal connection is that Janet’s three teenage children – my nephews, Billy and Brian and my niece, Robin - were killed in an automobile accident. The song is lovingly dedicated to their memory and consecrated for use in the Lord’s ministry of healing.
My wife, Sandi (a cellist) and I have performed “We Are Remembered” as part of WARM’s annual remembrance mass since 1987. We have also performed the song at a special mass held bi-annually at St. Stephen’s RCC in Johnstown, PA, for a sister organization to WARM called, Victims Remembered (VR). We were thrilled for the opportunity to share the song twice on television. First on CTV’s “Lightmusic”, a nationally syndicated Christian music TV program, and more recently on Christian Associates’ TV program, “Book 19”. Sandi and I continue to share the song, as the Spirit leads us, in the various concerts and services we do. Tapes, EP’s and CD’s of the song have been distributed widely in Western PA. The recording is also being used in grief counseling in New York.
We stand humbled, amazed and overjoyed by the positive response from folks who have heard the song. Many people have related to WARM and VR officers and directly to Sandi and me of how they have been comforted by the song’s message of hope, which is in Christ Jesus. We are thankful for the privilege of participating in the healing that God is pouring into the hearts of His people.
